China Energy Label

The legal basis of China Energy Label is the Administration Measure on Energy Efficiency Labels. According to this measure, some household appliances, which are manufactured, sold in China or imported to China, have to affix China Energy Label on the products. Until now, household appliances that are subject to the listing of products carrying out mandatory energy labels include:
· household refrigerators
· electric washing machines
· room air conditioners
· variable speed room air conditioners (inverter air conditioner)
· domestic gas instantaneous water heater and gas fired heating-hot water combi-boilers
· electrical storage water heaters
· induction cookers
· electric rice cooker
· electric fans
· microwave ovens
· domestic solar water heating systems
China Energy Label is a compulsory comparative label, which is shown below. The background of the energy label is blue and white. Based on the energy consumption of appliances, each type of appliances is divided into three or five grades. Green means low energy consumption, while red means high energy consumption. China Energy Label generally contains below information: name of the manufacturers; product model identifier; energy efficiency grade; energy consumption or water consumption; volume, input power and other important indexes; energy efficiency standard number.

China Energy Label applies for the management method of “enterprise self-declaration + energy information reporting + market surveillance”. In other words, enterprises have to report to the China Energy Label Center (CELC) about the energy efficiency information of the products, and promise the products sold on the market with the same grade of energy efficiency as reported. At the same time, enterprises should provide corresponding testing report and other supporting materials to CELC, so that government, society, industry and consumer can review and access to if needed.
